Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner

On Sunday,August 6th, around noon or so, we went to a Festival at a Catholic Church about 20 minutes from here, where they served an AWESOME family style chicken dinner.  And, wouldn't you know it, I was so busy feeding my face, I didn't think to take ONE photo of the meal !!

But, visualize this........deep friend Chicken, mashed potatoes and AWESOME chicken gravy, Corn off the cob, Noodles, Green beans, Cole Slaw and rolls!  They make it all on site.  Plus all the iced tea or coffee you could drink.  And, if that wasn't enough, they brought around a tray of all kinds of desserts!  I chose the home made carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. 

OH YUM!!!!  That had to be some of the best deep friend chicken I have ever eaten, not to mention the gravy!  Needless to say, we were waddling out of there.

It was run very efficiently, and we didn't have to wait long to get a table for 7.  And, our little waitress kept coming around to keep our bowls filled.

Afterwards, we could have partaken in games that they had set up and all kinds of activities but we decided to walk off some of that food we had just gorged ourselves on and wander down to the Classic cars that they had on display on their lawns!  Rows of them, but I only took a few of my favorites, the '57 Chevy, regardless of the color :-)

It was a really nice afternoon and boy oh boy, good thing they have a HUGE parking lot and expansive lawns, as there were literally hundreds of cars there.  

Great day was had by all!!

A Memorial to our wonderful Annie!!

I haven't posted since November and some of you know the reason why, but for the rest of you....... On December 7th, we lost our beautiful Annie.  I still have a hard time talking about it, without choking up.  She was truly a gift from Heaven to us. I posted on Facebook but I just couldn't talk about her in person, without crying, and after almost a month, still have a hard time. But, since she was such a trooper and started the RV life with us at 12 years old and put up with travelling all over the US,  I thought she deserved to be honored in a blog post.   Please feel free to just move on if you aren't a dog lover, I'll understand. So here's to one of the best friends we've ever had.   I got to thinking that she traveled through 26 states with us during her lifetime of 16 3/4 years. She saw both oceans and walked and peed on a lot of different soil.  :-)     Annie as a pup in 2004.  She was a Mother's Day gift from our younger Son.

Crockett, Texas "Paradise in the Pines"

Crockett is about 40 miles from where we are staying at our current volunteer job with VCB.  We had gone there once to pick up a prescription and get a few groceries but didn't venture down to the actual town. I always have to look up the history of the town or what it’s known for or how it got it’s name….and of course things to do and see there.  Here is what I found: The town was named after David  Crockett  who reportedly had camped nearby on his way to the Alamo; the site was very near the Old San Antonio Road. A family from Tennessee donated the land for the town and named it after  Crockett , whom they had previously known. We, also pass through Groveton, on our way to Crockett to get groceries.  A week or two ago, on our way to Crockett, we passed a field where they had some guys in civil war uniforms.    We didn’t know what was going on till we got home and I Googled it….and found out they were enacting the battle of blackjack grove.  If we had known about it,

It's a God Thing, for sure

Hello.....some of you may have been following me on my other blog, http://Pawsn2stamp.blogspot.com  and have asked that I do a travel blog. Some of you know the story or how we became interested in volunteering with VolunteerChristianBuilders.org  and that is what we are getting ready to do. The name of our blog depicts the very thing I said when I had been talking to a friend via e-mail and told her how we had been tossing the idea around for over a year and I was getting so frustrated because we couldn't decide what to do.....sell the house or stay.  We couldn't go do what we wanted if we didn't sell the house but on the other hand, I LOVED my home.  So, one day, I told her "I am so frustrated, with the back and forth, back and forth trying to decide whether to do it or not, I guess someone is just going to have to knock on my door and ask if we want to sell the house and I'll know it's from God"  Well, not even 20 minutes later, the doorbell rang
