Back in Mauriceville

Back in Mauriceville before New Year's.  We were invited on Dec 31st to join the rest of the church in a little get together.  They had tons and tons of snacks and we really enjoyed the fellowship with everyone.

We went back to our RV as everyone had places to go to spend time with their families and friends.  We watched TV for a bit and then went to bed.  But, you could hear the fireworks going off all around us throughout the night.

We spent the first week of the New Year helping out where we could at the church.

We helped our new friend, Maxine move buckets, trim, heavy items and other things left behind, from the sanctuary.  We had to use a dolly to move out the larger items.  It took us about 3 hours.  Not bad for 3 old people, lol.  Maxine also is a VCBer...but this is her church and she was mainly in the kitchen but you could find her helping out everywhere else, too.

I got a few good recipes from her....can't wait to make them at a later time.  She was always full of encouragement and gave the best hugs.

The last full day we were there, we were on our computers checking e-mail, figuring out the best route to take to Cooper and visiting people that came into the gym/church office.

Two of the ladies we got to know while we stayed in Mauriceville, were Linda and her daughter, Sherrie,  They visited us for quite a while that afternoon and Sherrie told us a route she would take, if she was going up to Cooper.  She was full of stories about different trips she has taken.

Then, we decided to meet up for dinner, later that day, around 4:30 at Tuffy's eatery, right there in Mauriceville.  David and I had driven by this little restaurant quite a few times but never stopped.  Oh my, what little gems you can find in the middle of nowhere.  It not only had some of the best food we've eaten, they even had live country music.

Now I wished we had tried this place sooner after seeing all the yummy things on their menu.

We got there ahead of the gals and got seated and we were brought a basket of fresh rolls.  Oh my word....they were heavenly!!!  Then the gals got there and we ordered.

These are the fun ladies we met while staying in Mauriceville!! Always had a smile on their face and enjoyed their company so much.

I had a hard time making up my mind so I just ordered what they ordered, Chicken fried Chicken and it was really good. It was HUGE.  David got a huge SPUD.  I almost ordered that and am glad I didn't as it covered an entire plate.   I ended up taking more than half my chicken home.

David's potato had shrimp, cheese, chives, bacon, butter and sour cream.  See that platter?  They said that they are not called potatoes but SPUDS...as they are so huge.

We had a nice time visiting!!  What a fun couple of ladies.

The next morning,  Saturday Jan 6th, we got everything ready to head for Cooper, TX.
As we were pulling out, David decided to make one last check around the RV.  Good thing!!

Oh oh, we had a flat tire.  So, then we unhooked and went in search of a tire place, that could fix an RV tire.  The first one said they didn't work on 17 1/2" tires.  The second place just plain didn't want to do it and the last one we stopped at was able to send someone over to the field we were parked in, take off our tire....run it back to the shop, fix it and bring it back.  That kid got a tip!!!

So, now, we were OFF to Cooper!!!  Had a very relaxing drive and saw different country than we had been in the last few weeks.  Rolling hills and countryside.

We arrived in Cooper, TX just before sunset and we were directed into our spot.  We would be there the next 2 weeks.  I had to wait till the next day to take the photo as it was too dark when we arrived.
There we are in the front on the far left!  There were about 11 rigs parked out front and in the back of the church.

I'll share more about our time in Cooper, TX in another post!!

Until then..................
