Catching up in spurts

Wow, when I wrote that last post in Mauriceville, TX, I had no way of knowing I wouldn't have Wi Fi for weeks.  YIKES!!!

And, a good lesson I have learned from that is, yes, you CAN survive without e-mail and the internet.  Not fun, but it's doable!! :-)

So, to carry on....I'll catch you up on our trip to FL. and then our break for Christmas.

Since all the other VCBrs had left to go home or other places for the holidays, we decided to stick around for a couple of days before taking a trip to Florida, to see our younger Son, for Christmas.

David was signed up to work at a church in Vidor, TX, just 12 miles west of Mauriceville with one other guy from the previous group, for a week.  So, I stayed at the Mauriceville location while the two men worked in Vidor during the day.

On December 14th, they were finished over in Vidor but, the pastor at Mauriceville invited us to stay till we took off for Florida on Monday, December 18th.  And, he also invited us to come back and stay till we had to be at our next destination up in Cooper, TX on January 6th.

On December 18th, we started our trip to Florida.   We crossed over our first bridge of many on our trip, in Lake Charles, LA.

Then, before Baton Rouge, we drove over the Atchafalaya Wildlife Refuge (swamp).  It is a raised road over 18 miles of swamp.   It was a foggy day, that day…but I managed to get a few good photos of the swamp.

You might want to Google Atchafalaya WLR to read more about it.  It is different than anything I have ever seen, that’s for sure.  I was told the way to pronounce it is to forget there is a T in name.

We spent our first night, on the road, in Livingston, LA at an RV park on a man-made lake.  Didn't take photos there.....not sure why.

In the morning, we headed for Defuniak Springs, FL.  Along the way, we went through a tunnel at Mobile AL.  Not fond of tunnels, either, but I did pretty good…considering I was told it went UNDER the shipping lanes of the Mobile Bay.  It was foggy that day, as well…and after the tunnel, there is a long bridge over even more water at Mobile Bay.

Getting closer                                   Just before entering               Entering tunnel

It was well lighted....so not as eerie as I thought it would be.  And, there is light at the end of the tunnel!!

Then there is the bridge over the Bay.....and boy was it foggy...but after awhile we reach our destination of Defuniak Springs, FL.

What a wonderful sight after a long day.

Tomorrow...we head for Jacksonville!
One thing I have  noticed being down here in SE Texas and all the way to FL….there is a LOT of water!!!  And, a LOT of bridges!!!

I'll be posting a little more often while we are here, at our new location, so I can get caught up to date, as they have Wi Fi.  TV reception isn't the best...but then it hasn't been for awhile....oh well....can't have it all.

See ya soon,

Char
