Celebrating our wonderful Annie's 14th birthday, today!!! Now onto my blog post for today!! We have been at Pineywoods baptist camp volunteering since the 3rd week of January up to the present. I thought I would show you some of the work the guys were doing on the newest lodge that is being built. I waited till the job was almost finished (or the part VCB and TBM played) so that you could see the progress made. The first two weeks, that we were here at Pineywoods, I was down sick with the flu so I missed taking a lot of photos. But, you'll get the a gist of what goes on here. Some of the first jobs David was given to do, was sand, router and poly boards that would go on the insides of the dorms. Since I was still sick, I didn't get photos of those. When I was finally able to get out and about, he was routing bed parts for the 28 bunk beds that would go in the dorms. Here they are assembling the bunk bed frames. And, a photo of t...

Hello.....some of you may have been following me on my other blog, http://Pawsn2stamp.blogspot.com and have asked that I do a travel blog. Some of you know the story or how we became interested in volunteering with VolunteerChristianBuilders.org and that is what we are getting ready to do. The name of our blog depicts the very thing I said when I had been talking to a friend via e-mail and told her how we had been tossing the idea around for over a year and I was getting so frustrated because we couldn't decide what to do.....sell the house or stay. We couldn't go do what we wanted if we didn't sell the house but on the other hand, I LOVED my home. So, one day, I told her "I am so frustrated, with the back and forth, back and forth trying to decide whether to do it or not, I guess someone is just going to have to knock on my door and ask if we want to sell the house and I'll know it's from God" Well, not even 20 minutes later, the doorbell rang...

Crockett, Texas "Paradise in the Pines"

Crockett is about 40 miles from where we are staying at our current volunteer job with VCB. We had gone there once to pick up a prescription and get a few groceries but didn't venture down to the actual town. I always have to look up the history of the town or what it’s known for or how it got it’s name….and of course things to do and see there. Here is what I found: The town was named after David Crockett who reportedly had camped nearby on his way to the Alamo; the site was very near the Old San Antonio Road. A family from Tennessee donated the land for the town and named it after Crockett , whom they had previously known. We, also pass through Groveton, on our way to Crockett to get groceries. A week or two ago, on our way to Crockett, we passed a field where they had some guys in civil war uniforms. We didn’t know what was going on till we got home and I Googled it….and found out they were enacting the battle of blackjack...
