Our newest adventure
Well, we have officially entered the world of Workamping. What is that you say? Workamping is just that, working while 'camping'.
Here is the official description:
Workamping, a portmanteau, blending "work" and "camping," is a form of tent or RV (primarily) camping involving singles, couples or families who work part-time or full-time. The people who are Workamping can be called Workampers.
We were visiting family and friends in Oregon and trying to decide what our next step was going to be. We had hoped to find a place to stay put in Central Oregon for a while or even SW WA so we could visit our family and friends throughout the summer months before we made a decision as to what we'd do come winter.
We had always planned on going back to work with VCB but we found out, through our experience, that they mostly work in the Central part of the US....and being away from family for 7 months at a time was hard on me. NOT that we won't do it again but we decided to take a break and see what other opportunities were out there.
We loved working with VCB and couldn't have worked with a nicer bunch of people and we will be returning to do that at some point.....just not this summer. AND, if they come to WA or OR and we are not workamping, we'll jump at the chance to work with them again. Loved our time with them!!!
Anyway, while we were visiting friends and family, we were also looking into job opportunities. We had signed up with a website, online, called Workampers and it was through them that we got a call from the manager of a campground up in the Olympic Peninsula. It sounded like something we could do, we talked it over and accepted the job.
We told her that we were home to attend the graduation of our Granddaughter, from college, and she was kind enough to allow us to wait till after our Granddaughter graduated before we were to begin working.
Then, on June 19th, we made the 5 hour drive up to Port Angeles driving up I-5 and then....taking hwy 101. We found out, later, that we could have come a different way and it would have been faster. BUT, it was all good.
We got settled into our Host spot and then she just told us to settle in......and a couple of days later, we were introduced to the rest of the workampers at a potluck.
Since then, we have been doing various things around the campground. I probably won't post about our job..that much.....but rather focus on our experiences while working and on our days off visiting different places around the area.
One thing I love, about this RV park, is that the view from our RV looks right out onto the Strait of Juan de Fuca and we can see Vancouver Island on the other side. I don't think I will ever get tired of seeing tons of ships coming up the Strait....heading for the port at Port Angeles.
Since we have been here, we have seen cargo ships, submarines being escorted in and out of the Strait.....cruise ships and I just missed an aircraft carrier as I was busy getting ready for work, that morning.

After receiving her diploma.
Our granddaughter, Nicole, who held a job and attended college and her husband, Misael, (who helped and supported her while he also held down a full time job)
I also got to see my Great Niece graduate with the same class. Although, I didn't realize it till her name was called and she walked across the stage...so I didn't get a photo! She also held a job, attended college and is a full time Mom to two girls.
Just proves IT CAN be done, if you are willing to put forth the effort!!! So proud of them. Congratulations to you both!!!

Lots of surfers come to enjoy the day.
The drive up to Joyce, WA on a narrow two lane road that is steep!
The beautiful sunsets!!! I'll never get tired of these!
Until next time!!! Enjoy every day to it's fullest!!!

Thank you for your progress report. Must be really neat to be closer to home, friends and family and up in that area of Washington. Beautiful pictures! Marilyn
