Crescent Beach, WA

Well, we've been here, now, since June 19th and we have pretty much settled in so, I guess I should catch you up on what we've been up to.

One of the first things I noticed when we entered the office, here at Crescent Beach RV Park, was this board. I like to check it out when we walk up to the office each day.

That way, one knows when high tide or low tide is going to be.  There is a HUGE difference as to how much beach you have to walk on!!  OR depending on the conditions, it makes a difference to the surfers that come here.  It's not Hawaii by any stretch of the imagination or CA for that matter, but we do get a lot of surfers, paddle boarders etc.

We got here on June 19th and they had a potluck for all the crew on the 21st.  Since we were the newcomers and hadn't really gotten settled in just yet, they gave us a pass on bringing something.  The food was yummy!!

Then, we were sort of  'in training' for the next few days. We were hired to work one of two shifts, but that all changed.  Now, we have taken on the job of cabin cleaning.  Long story....and won't go into details but that was not what we had first agreed to do when we first took the job.  BUT, with negotiating, everything eventually has been worked out.....set hours and the days off, that we had agreed to.

And, look at the view from the cabin!!  Not sure why I haven't gotten an outside photo of the cabins, maybe I'll remember to take one and share it later.

I have to tell you that cleaning cabins was not my ideal job but to be perfectly honest, I have come to enjoy it.  I like knowing that I am getting the cabin ready for someone to enjoy a few days away.  I clean every nook and cranny and take great pride in having it just 'right'.  Of course, after the cabin/s are cleaned.....then I have to do all the wash.  David helps me out with that.  He'll take everything down to get it started while I continue cleaning.  Then, I join him when I am finished.  We have tubs of clean linens etc to put in the cabin.  Then, EVERYTHING is washed, right down to the bedspread and blankets and all of that goes into a new tub for the next time we clean.   With only one washing machine, that takes most of the rest of the day to get it washed, dried and folded.

We had a 'different' 4th of July.  Although the park doesn't set off fireworks, they do allow their campers to bring fireworks and set them off on the beach.

Well, you have people that play by the rules and those that don't.   One group set off some big ones after we had gone home....and evidently they went the wrong way and landed in the field between the beach and the RV park.   At midnight, I woke up to loud noises and went outside to see what was going on and this was my view from peeking around the front of our RV.  Four fire trucks.

Then, the next day, we went looking for what had caught on fire.  Glad that they were called and got it out quickly.

In the last seven weeks since coming here, we have had quite a lot of experiences.  We have watched as huge ships navigate up the Strait.  I even got to watch a cruise ship go by us that my up line from Stampin' UP! was on.  Of course, on that day it HAD to be foggy over near Vancouver Island, so I could just barely make out the ship.  But, I still went down on the beach and waved as she cruised by. :-)

We have seen two dead seals that washed up on shore.  We also saw a dead shark looking fish, as well.

We have watched the fog roll in.....and stay for days. Sometimes the fog just splits the two campgrounds of Salt Creek and Crescent Beach RV park.

And, sometimes the entire beach is fogged in.  It's eerie to see someone slowly appearing from the fog.  And, all during this time, you hear the fog horns on the ships going through the Strait.

We have had deer walk right past our RV and behind the restrooms, which we are parked next to.

There is a family of otters that go down to the ocean each day and then scurry back to avoid the Eagle that is always on the look out for fresh meat.  Evidently, there is seagull carnage now and then, but thankfully I have NOT had to witness that.

There is a raccoon that visits the park and partakes in food that campers leave out.  Someone left out dog food....and the resident raccoon decided to shove it in his mouth as fast as he could before he was chased away.

Crows have been seen flying off with whatever food was left out on a table.

We have to rely on stuff like that for entertainment as there is basically no Wi Fi here to speak of unless you want to sit up by the office in your car.  (that's why we eventually bought a Jet Pack for our Wi Fi) AND, there is no TV, either,  unless you call 3 shopping channels and Jimmy Swaggart...TV.

On one of our first trips into Port Angeles, as we were driving down Lincoln Street to take 101 out to Walmart, we saw a ship seemingly sitting right in town.  After you go over that little hill, you see a lot more highway, but this was an awesome view that first trip.

The best thing about it all, are these views!!!

Taken in the daytime, but the sun looked like a flying saucer.

I'll try to do much better now that we have reliable Wi Fi.   It's a lot easier to remember what you've done, when you blog more often.  :-(

We have about another month or so here and then we'll be looking forward to a new adventure.  AND, hopefully some where warmer.

The temperatures here are mostly in the 50's and 60's.  Not the kind of summer I am used to....but then I am not sweltering in 100 degree weather either :-)

Have a great week!!!

  1. Looks like a beautiful place and you are doing such good deeds! You guys are awesome! Your sunset views are gorgeous! How fun would it be to stay in one of those little cabins for a week or so.. of just silence, and the waves lapping, etc. COOL would be much welcomed right now as it's 103 today in Madras! And it's been so so DRY here.. not a speck of rain for over 2 months and we sure could use it.. nights aren't cooling down either. Right now I yearn for the coastal weather! Marilyn
